SITUATIONAL REPORT OF ACCRA POLYTECHNIC

Introduction:
Ebenezer, this is how far the Lord has brought  us his name be praise , glofies now and forever more. Amen

Historical Backround
Accra polytechnic was established in the year 1993; one year after the 1992 constitution has be introduce. Accountancy student thought it wise to form an association that will give them the platform to seek academic redress.

For a fact, the association started in Accra polytechnic with six executive namely the
President
Vice president
Secretary
Financial secretary
Organizing secretary
Publicity secretary

The constitution of the association was drafted by Accra polytechnic which was approved by general council composing the executives’ committee and representative from each class. This constitution is in conformity with the company of law and Accra polytechnic SRC constitution. This is why article (1) stated and I quote “The company law of Ghana shall be applied where this is limited” This constitution was binding on only A-poly alone not until this association was introduced, the constitution was reframe to suit all chapters.

It became necessary for the formation national secretariat to seek national recognition of the association. In this effect the constitution of the association was reviewed again during national congress held at Accra polytechnic. The main articles that were reviewed are article 6, 7, 14, 22 and 23.because the constitution was meant for chapters alone national secretariat would have to make it open to suit them. That is why article 23 was added, article 6 was reviewed to include national coordinator as one of the executives. In short the national constitution was blended with the chapters’ constitution which is binding on the national secretariat and all chapters

Upon the agreement of the main congress held at Accra polytechnic, Accra polytechnic was given the chance to host the national seat for two years that is 1995 academic year and 1996 academic year, the reason been that Accra polytechnic is the founder of the association..

Aphasians and the entire executives can happily and boldly say that they have given birth to Association  of  Polytechnic HND Accountancy student –Ghana (APHAS –G) and they are the backbone of it.

Numerical Strenth
1. As stipulated in article 6 of our constitution, every chapter of the association must be      headed by eight (8) executives namely:

THE PRESIDENT                             Edmund Addae Konadu
Vice president                              Benjamin Annor
Secretary                                      Patience Adu Opokua
Financial secretary                        Benjamin Gyannor
Publicity secretary                        Michael Zigah
Ladies organizer                           Bernice Baah
Gents organizer                           Redeemer Attipoe
National coordinator                    Rockson Owusu

The above executives are currently running the association in the Accra Poly chapter for 2007/2008 academic year

2. Formerly, the class in this chapter was one class and as time went on people understood the polytechnic education, mostly the accountancy course. Due to this, the class is then divided into two classes and I speak the classes have been divided into three classes where each class contains 140 students due to the bumper number. For this fact the numbers of Aphas on Accra Poly campus has increased.

In all, the number of members in our chapter is almost thousand five hundred (1500).

Objectives
As spelt out in the constitution, Accra Poly is not an exception to it. Our objectives have been categorized into general and specific.

General
The general objective as spelt out in the constitution is to seek the educational welfare of        students. To be specific social and educational welfare are our prior concern.

Another general objective is that the executives and the entire association serve as the mouthpiece between the polytechnic and all alumni (past members).

Specific
It actually falls into the mind of the executives of Accra Poly chapter to continue the good work initiated by predecessors.

Achievement
As part of the activities that are to be achieved by every chapter, seminars and educational trip to be precise. We have been able to organise seminars for all Aphasians in our chapter on the topic “the role of HND Accountants in the middle level management” and another one topic on Entrepreneur to our members.

Secondly, an educational trip to the Controller and Accountant General’s department to expose members to the job market.

Thirdly, because the main objective is to seek to the educational welfare of members, the association has currently provided ceiling funs in lecture halls. Also money has been allocated for the renovation of our patron thus the H.O.D’s office.

Furthermore, credit to the past executives who purchased the public Address system which is seen as a great achievement of the association.

Last but not the least, it was factored in the previous administration’s budget to purchase computer system to be used by the association but did not come into reality. As I speak the current executives have purchased a computer and a printer for the association. Also new sports jerseys in addition to the old ones, which members will use for sporting activities.

Obstacle
Some members do not partake in the activities and programmes organised for the association.

Most members will bear with me that, the life blood of every association is money. Some members do not pay their dues at all. Due to this, the programmes that will be under listed by the association cannot be implemented. This problem mostly happens with our members in the third year.

End of semester results are not released on time, due to this, members do not see the work of the executives. The past and the current executives have done their best but the problem is still pending.

Recommendation
Members, including past members are advised to read notice. Past members are also advised to read news papers to know how the association is doing.

Because it has been factored in the constitution that, all past members of the association are automatic members. Aphas Accra Poly chapter is pleading with past members for donation.

Members are also advised to pass through the right channel for the registration and the payment of their dues.

Current executives are anticipating that because the HOD has been changed, everything of the association will change. So hoping that this time, the results will be release early.

 Acknowledgement
We wish to acknowledge the management of Accra poly for their cooperation, also to the HOD of accountancy department for his support to the upkeep of this association. Finally, to all members of APHAS nationwide

LONG LIVE    APHAS.
